Voting in the Children?s Referendum takes place on Saturday next, November 10, between 9.00am and 10.00pm.
This Referendum is about protecting children where there is clear evidence of abuse, supporting families and treating all children equally when it comes to adoption.
It is about acting on the legacy of child protection failures that have appalled Ireland for decades, and is part of a wider programme of reform of child protection services.
A Yes vote will put the protection of children at the centre of decision making, where there is clear evidence of abuse.
A Yes vote will support families which are in trouble, with early intervention and family support services that can prevent more serious problems.
A Yes vote will address serious gaps in our adoption laws, giving children in long-term foster care a second chance of a loving family by making adoption by foster parents a real possibility.
This Referendum is one of a number of steps to improve child protection ? these include the appointment of the first ever Cabinet Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, the strengthening of our child protection laws, the removal of child protection services from the HSE and an increase in the number of social workers employed in child protection services.
A Yes vote will help protect every child, especially the most vulnerable. I am asking you to vote Yes on Saturday.
